The Liberty Pub is a real gem. They've got a great beer selection and the food is pretty damn good by anyone's standards. We had the Liberty Rolls and the pizza with pesto and clams. Both were excellent. Ethan, the bartender, was really helpful with telling us where to spend our time in town and to catch the sunset--Simpson Reef, by the way. If we ever make it back through North Bend, I'll make sure we stop here.

This is a great pub. The food is excellent, we had the soup special of the night. And found the beer selection to be excellent, my wife enjoyed red wine (can remember what kind but they let her taste a couple until she was happy). I found the service to be excellent and ended up chatting with the owners a bit - they were very cool and have set the tone for a great spot . We will be back next time we are in town. FYI great service, casual feel, lots of local folks and a couple tourists like us. Coming from Portland, price was excellent for what you got. Also loved the live music, loud but not crazy loud.

We haven't been to the Liberty for probably a year. The last time, I left pissed after we ordered a second beer in the middle of dinner, and they finally brought it just as we were finished eating. But life is too short to hold grudges, right? Nor are there enough eateries in this area that you can eliminate places for life. And places can improve, right? Right?? This re-visit actually took two tries. The first was a few nights ago. We decided to give Liberty another try, drove down there, parked, walked up to the door ... and found it locked with a sign saying they were closed for a private dinner. Back to Walt's, which was great as always. We should have cut our losses at that point, But, no, we're dogged. So we went back again, again. And it was fine to start. But then it got busier and busier, and our poor server -- who was trying to handle the entire dining area plus also do stuff for the bartender (owner?) -- just wasn't able to keep up. To make matters worse they appear to have attracted a crowd of crap-beer aficionados with some kind of Stone beer promotion. Yee-uck. But then they made no accommodation whatsoever with extra help? (By the way, the young woman pouring Stone samples must have been psychic. Clearly, she knew not bother ever stopping at our table to offer any of that vile swill to us.) Long story short, the small pizza and Calzone-like burger we shared were fine. No bargain, but not crazy either. But it took nearly two hours to get our order in, wait for food, wait for more beer, and -- this is always the part that kills it for me -- wait 15 minutes for a check once we were ready to bail. If they ever figure out the service part, these guys will be a regular stop on our eating circuit. Maybe they can set up an email alert to let us know when that happens? Meanwhile, we're too busy to spend this kind of time on pub grub, no matter how good it might be. PS. Written beer list: Get one, Liberty. Even if you don't have as good a selection as Walt's, it's really annoying going through the lame song-dance with a server where you have to ask what's on tap, then you get that lame BS of, "Just tell me what kind of beer you like, and I'll tell you what we have like that." Jeez.

Awesome place, nice knowledgable owner, great place to listen to live music and relax after work.

Absolutely wonderful! The owner sources all kinds of wonderful beers on tap, often limited runs of seasonal or hard-to-find taps. The atmosphere is dark wood, cozy, and NOT sketchy: a classic pub with local patrons and friendly barkeeps. The food is pub "+" and the menu is clever and concise, with things like shepherds pie, home-made Mac n cheese, and fish n chips. I Will come back to check out the live music scene.... And may likely add a fifth star at that time!

This place is so awesome !! They have the best pub food in this town . Their pizzas are super yummy and so are their stuffed sandwiches. The place doesn't look like much on the outside but on the inside it is decorated fun . This place is down to earth and the staff are so friendly. You will not be disappointed here . They also have a family dinning area if you have minors with you .

The menu isn't incredibly varied, but it's got plenty of indulgent, rich bar foods that are as delicious as they are terrible for you. If you're from anywhere outside of a 150-mile radius of New York City, you'll probably like their pizza, although I personally found it completely unsatisfactory. However, since this is not their only food option, and the beer selection is one of the best in the area, I have to say that I recommend this place. But the ambience is probably the Liberty Pub's strongest aspect. The place appears to be clean and well-kept, with a good staff. It's kept fairly dark and has a little bit of an edgy, fun feel. And they regularly host live local music which has yet to disappoint me.

What can I say? The service was excellent, drinks were great, and the food was incredible. We started with the liberty rolls. Meat, cheese, onion, corn, spices. They were damn good. I got the bacon cheeseburger made with pizza dough instead of a bun. Easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. My boyfriend had the homemade split pea and ham soup with some cheesy bread. He absolutely loved it. Although we came all the way from Eugene, we'll definitely be back.

It took a little while to get a beer from the bar or this would be a five star review. I thought I knew pizza but was proven wrong. Everything about the pie was phenomenal! I would have gone just for that but they have a solid draft and bottle selection that will bring me back. Oh, and I scored a few used CDs!

Nice people, knowledgable staff, good thoughtfully crafted menu. The crowd was a friendly local bunch. I enjoyed it.

Disappointed.,. Had a large two topping pizza..beef n onion. Was a lousy topped. Hardly any meat ! Three little balls a slice really? Onions gotta be one of cheapest topping it to was scarce. Hhmmm after our second pie I am not sure I want to pay top dollar for a pizza that tasted good bit leaves us still hungry

We were traveling through Coos Bay and had dinner here. Their pizza is celebrated locally and, in fact, is unique in my experience, so we had that. The crust is thin, with thick rolled edges to hold the toppings in place. The toppings (we chose what we wanted from a list) are generous, so the thick edge makes perfect sense. The pies (we each had a small) were very good. They serve lots of draft beer, but we had blended red wine, which was good. The ambiance is "old bar casual" and very comfortable. We found the service to be prompt but not pushy and the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I'm bound to note this is the first time I've had a live classical pianist playing in this kind of bar. The pianist was good and the music very enjoyable. After her set they played classic rock over the PA system. They kept both the live music and recorded stuff at a volume that allowed listening, but did not make conversation at all difficult. No mean feat with 20 foot ceilings.

If you enjoyed Roger's Zoo, you will certainly enjoy The Liberty Pub! Roger has decided to call it quits, and sold to a husband/wife couple who wanted to keep the tradition of a bar in that building alive, while maintaining a very similar atmosphere to what Roger's Zoo was. After several months of clean-up, building repairs, and restoration, with a lot of help from Roger along the way, the result is quite beautiful. This place has a very quiet, casual and relaxed atmosphere. Its a place to go after work, or, with it's proximity to the Little Theatre on the Bay, a place to go after the show. It is a place meant to go with a few friends and enjoy some good conversation. There are two sides to the place, a restaurant side, where minors are allowed, so if you wish to bring your family down, you may. All beer/wine/liquor offerings can be had on the family side restaurant side. Then of course, there is the pub side. The selection of beers here is very good. There are 11 beers on tap, most of them microbrews, brewed out of Oregon and the northwest. However, there is also Coors Light and Budweiser on tap as well. There are also numerous canned and bottled beers (referred to on the chalk board as "draft dodgers") which are also microbrews, though Guinness is offered in a can. There are numerous high quality liquor offerings as well as very good red and white wines. The food here is excellent as well. The pizza is amongst the best you will find. The fish and chips are quite delicious. You will also find Shepherd's Pie here. A unique menu item to try to the Pub Rolls. They are difficult to describe other than delicious. The stage, which is on the pub side is still there, and has also been repainted and walled with old album covers, and a new dance floor was laid down. This means that in the future, there will be live music offerings. There will be some cover bands, but there will mainly be original music, which will not be too loud. There are also 3 big screen tv's on the pub side, so if you wish to watch a sporting event, you may. However, if you are someone who isn't into tv's don't worry, they are not overwhelming, and the sound will remain turned off (except for special instances such as championship level professional and college sporting events, as well as Duck and Beaver football). Other cool features of this place include a back smoking deck, and a chalkboard painted wall at the front door, where customers are encouraged to write on the wall. So come on down with a full stomach, but also a full wallet, as The Liberty Pub is ever so slightly on the spendy end. But let me tell you: being able to avoid rowdy 20-somethings, plus the quality of the food and drinks is very well worth a couple of extra bucks.

Pretty great for this town. I live across the street and it's great! Love their pizzas. Their stuff sandwiches are great too. Like the atmosphere and the owner is a great guy.. Waits on people the way people should be. Glad downtown NB has some new places to visit.

Just darn good food. Don't understand the negative reviews, I can't tell who the owner is but everyone is nice and I have been treated friendly. Got the bacon burger. F"ing amazing. Also got a cup of beef stew. Also very good. Will be back.

I'm not one for reinventing the wheel. That being said, read Christopher L's review, then come back. Now that you are back... I'll continue. I only disagree on one thing, and that is the "spendy" comment at the end. It doesn't seem spendy to me, as I'm accustomed to paying for quality food and drink, and this place has it. If you are accustomed to the bar where they have $2.00 Bud Light all night long, free buckets of peanuts, and line dancing with a few dozen whores, then this is not the place for you. There is not a single beer on tap or bottle, that is not of the highest quality. I also love that the owner/bartender Ethan can tell you the life story behind every brew if you desire, and is happy to give you samples until you find the one you enjoy. I will admit that I am partial to Hoegaarden (which is only the best beer in the galaxy - bar none) and he has it on tap. Try it (unless you are a big puss and don't have testicles or taste buds). The bottom line is this... his beer does NOT suck. I also like that he does his homework and rotates his beers, always striving for the best. If you want Budweiser, pick up a six pack at Safeway and go back home and play your X-box, while I buy your wife/girlfriend (who is seeking a more refined experience) a Hoegaarden. He also has a large selection of quality spirits and knows how to use them. As for the food... let me just say that I live to eat, rather than eat to live. I enjoy good food and good beer, and this place has both. I can honestly say that there is NOTHING that I have tried that I did not absolutely love. Fried Green Beans. Eat them (with the honey mustard). Enough said. The assortment of pocket sandwiches which are similar to a calzone, are to die for. Take the best pizza dough in the world, and pack it full of all sorts of amazing things. Again, just Eat it. The pizza's themselves are amazing, especially the "Low tide" which (as screwed up as it sounds) consists of clams and pesto. It is ridiculous. Eat it. Fish and Chips. Eat it. There are tons of other things as well. Just eat them and shut up. They are all amazing. I should mention that Ethan's wife/owner (Karen) is the one that cooks up all this culinary deliciousness. I think that is one of the keys to this bar's success. You have a husband/wife team playing an active part in the day to day operation (cooking/bartending) and they understand what is at stake, and give 150% to ensure it's success. In a nutshell.. it's good food and beer, nice atmosphere that is not too loud, friendly owners that are not dicks, with enough room that it's not nuts to butts trying to get near the bar. It's not an "old fogey bar." There is a nice mix of MATURE younger AND older adults. This is not the drama filled fight club experience that some bars seem to be. For those couples who don't go out because they don't like the "bar scene".... come check it out. And for those that enjoy the "bar scene" except for the getting punched in the face part, check it out too!

Great selection of beer. They even have prankster! Good pub food. Try the fried green beans. Owners and staff are friendly and attentive. A place with Monty Pithon Holy Grail action figures on the wall can't be bad!

Re-opened in the spot that used to be Roger's Zoo. I haeard so many great things about the pizzas at Roger's Zoo and that the Liberty Pub serves similar pizzas, so I came down here the first chance I got with a group of friends. When I arrived (around 7 pm), several large groups were seated and enjoying the new pub. According to my friends, the new owners have cleaned up the place...A LOT! This place place is a bar (with a makeshift stage) on one side, and a sit down restaurant on the other. Nightly food and drink specials are written on the wall. Their menu did include pizzas in addition to the usual bar fare. I opted for an order of onion rings, iced tea, and a small "low tide" pizza (oysters and pesto sauce). While I waited for my order, my firend's order of garlic fries came. I have had garlic fries before, so I know what they were trying to achieve, but this came no where near that. The fries were skin-on and thin cut, that were sprinkled with crushed garlic and parsley after they came out of the deep fryer. There was no mixing to allow the flavors to blend together, so in the end the fries didn't really taste of garlic, just dried fried potatoes. Next came my order of onion rings, just looking at them, they were more disappointing than the garlic fries. There were maybe 10 onion rings and they were all fired to a dark brown, aka burnt! At last, my pizza arrived. The small pizza was about 10 inches in diameter and cut into quarters. Thankfully, the pizza was good, it was VERY garlicky and the crust was soft. The garlic and the pesto sauce paired very well, but I couldn't really taste the oysters. Service was below average, there were a few times when the waitress walked by, seeing my empty glass, and kept on walking. The final bill for my dinner of ice tea, onion rings (burnt and small), and a small specialty pizza came out to $21.50! Ouch! All with mediocre service, talk about poor value. Was the pizza good? Yes, it was, but not good enough for me to forget about everything else about my visit.

Bad pizza. Great Appetizers. Large but standard beer selection. Fried green beans and amazaballs are the hit. Nice venue fore music but gets real loud in the small Building.

A very uppity environment for a business that serves pizza and beer. Always seem to get unwelcoming looks upon entering. Probably because my husband and I are in our late 20's, early 30's and everyone in there is normally 40+. Pizza is a little overrated but its not bad. We pretty much only come here when friends want to.

We live in Colorado so we know pubs... and this is a fabulous place. My husband found the restaurant on Yelp... I wasn't sure I wanted to go there but I am so glad we did. We had these great "egg rolls" and the Omnivore pizza was perfect. It's all made there... the crust is perfect... with more meat than one ever sees on a pizza. The owners were just what one would expect at a great pub (soon to be an institution in Coos Bay)... conversationalists and superb chefs. Perfect. And, their staff were so dedicated. How nice is that. Go to this place. Really. What a delight.

No wonder they have a hundred beers on tap, they don't want you to remember how they treat you. The owner had previously invited me to stop in any time and have a drink on his dime because of a kindness I had shown to his whole family. I did stop in with no intention of calling on the aforementioned gesture. Within 5 minutes, the owner had belittled my wife, myself, and the group I was meeting. Not once, not twice, but thrice he had made loud comments to us that turned the heads of all the other patrons. The comments themselves were not the issue as much as the tone and delivery. My patience running thin due to his pompous attitude, I decided to leave and I don't believe I shall ever find a reason to return. This town is too small for some out of town hipster to run a macabre pizza bar as an elitist debutante vip lounge. Maybe he could use some of that wine country money to get an attitude adjustment.

Great selection of beers. Good grub. Love the deep fried green beans! Had a great pizza ... the oxymoron, which is the veggie pizza with meat. Also they have actual darts. Staff was great .. good music, but not too loud so you can still talk. Awesome.

I was surprised with this place. I was rolling through North Bend on my way to Portland (I wanted to take the scenic route) and came upon this place. Let's just say I'm a beer connoisseur and this pub had an amazing selection. Paulaner is my one and only hef and they had it on tap! Lagunitas, Rogue Ale, Arrogant Bas*ard, 21st Amendment and the list goes on. I also had the pizza there, also amazing! I talked to the owner and he mentioned that the pizza dough is hand tossed and made from scratch. No wonder it was so good. A little pricey but worthed. This place is a restaurant/pub and partitioned, that was a smart idea to separate the bar and restaurant crowds if there's families. I don't know if that's how the previous owner had it set up. I didn't have a bad experience like some other Yelpers here, all of the employees were very warm and welcoming. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in the area.
